Malachi 4
1. "For behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven, and all the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be stubble. And the day which is coming shall burn them up,'' says the Lord of hosts, "that will leave them neither root nor branch.
2. But to you who fear My name the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings; and you shall go out and grow fat like stall-fed calves.

If we genuinely want to walk with the Lord, He will take pains to rid our lives of pride and wickedness. If we do not yield these things to Him, the result is that the oven experience, instead of cleansing us, it turns us into stubble.
So what is stubble, you ask?

Another word for stubble is useless straw, or throw-away grass, and the Apostle Paul puts it this way in I Corinthians 3:
10. According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it.
11. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
12. Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw,
13. each one's work will become manifest; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is.
14. If anyone's work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward.
15. If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

We have done well to make the Lord Jesus our foundation. But after that, if our lives are still driven by pride or wickedness, the vital Day of evaluation, will reveal that we built on the foundation of Jesus Christ with useless materials: just straw, or stubble.

However, God does not want to wait until that day for us to be embarrassed. So He arranges to rid us of pride and wickedness now, so we can change our motivation in living and instead build our lives with humility and godly character.
Then on the Day of judgement and evaluation, we will not only be saved, but will also receive our reward from the Lord.

Prayer:
Father, today I yield to You, so that You can rid me of any hint of pride or wickedness that is lurking under the surface of my life, undetected by me.
I want to build my life on the foundation of the Lord Jesus Christ with gold, silver and precious stones so I can receive my reward from You with gladness,
